John began his career as an Electrician with the US Navy, aboard the USS Constellation, from 1994-1997. After his term with the military, he enrolled in an Electrical Apprenticeship program through San Diego City College. During that time he worked with various large companies such as Berg Electric and Helix Electric. Feeling that large scale construction sites were not his preferred environment, he made the switch to Residential Electric. During that time he worked with Captain Voltage, a local San Diego company, where he learned a great deal as an apprentice and Residential Electrician. John went on to work with various other companies to advance his pay and his experience.
In 2006, after having two kids, John and his wife decided to move to Sacramento, CA. Upon moving to Sacramento, John joined a team of tradesman, as the Electrician, who travelled the Bay Area, revamping 7/11’s, working 60 hours in 4 days, turning the stores from old to new again. Being away so much became taxing with his young children at home, so it was at this time, in 2007, that John started Parks Electric, with just himself, his truck & his tools.
In 2009, a producer from Bath Crashers spotted him driving on the freeway, and called him up to do the shows! John started doing home improvement shows consistently for the DIY and HGTV networks over the next 9 years. As time went on, business grew. In 2010 he could no longer take on jobs on his own, and that’s when he asked Jon Ethridge to come and join his team. The company has continued to grow from there, based on Parks Electric building successful working relationships with local Contractors, Designers, Real Estate Agents, House Flippers and Home Owners alike.
In the fall of 2015, John’s wife Claudia, left her teaching career, to help handle the increase of accounting, human resources, office administrations and general logistics of running a growing business.
